The cufflink is a collectible item originally belonging to Isidor Straus. A decorative piece of jewelry designed to fasten the cuffs of dress shirts, it is ultimately a necessary part of Frank Carlson's attempts to retrieve the painting.

After sending a telegram on behalf of the Purser for Mr. Thayer, returning to his office and requesting to gain entry into the Cargo Hold will prompt the Purser to refuse Carlson from entering. He remarks that Straus has lost the cufflink and is too busy to find it. Carlson can then offer to find the cufflink on his behalf.

If Carlson speaks with Max Seidelmann in the First Class Reception area, Max will tell him that Straus and his wife were at the foot of the Reception stairs not that long ago. The left-hand seat at the stair base can be searched, where the cufflink will be found lodged behind the cushion.

Carlson can then return the cufflink to the Purser's Office, prompting the Purser to leave his post and deliver it to Straus. Carlson may then retrieve the car keys from the rack.
