"The ship is under the command of Captain E. J. Smith, who has over 40 years of experience on the sea. Most recently, he commanded the Olympic on her maiden voyage."
Captain E.J. Smith is, as commander of the Titanic, the most senior deck officer under which authority are all persons on board.
When Frank Carlson asks the Purser where he could find Captain Smith's quarters, he refuses to tell him, as the captain is not to be bothered.
